Feature

●Natural product: the Belgian chunks is a natural grinding stone, which is mined in the Belgian Ardennes - each stone is unique. The roughness of the waterstone is between 6000 and 8000.
●Wide range of applications: for grinding, peeling and polishing knives, blades, razors, chisels, etc. Comes with product description and certificate of authenticity.
●Quality: extra extra (no cracks, bumps or inclusions). The Belgian chunks have an excellent quality and the entire grinding surface has the same hardness - the shape of the stone has nothing to do with the quality.
●Dimensions: Size 7 corresponds to an area of 48-58 cm², e.g. 9 x 6 cm. Size is ideal for sharpening large tools such as chefs knives, razor blades, pocket knives and much more.
●Advantage to other sharpening stones: sharpens every type of steel, stainless steel, diamond steel and HSS high-speed steel very finely and quickly. No other sharpening stone has these properties.

Remos yellow Belgian chunks whetstone extra extra

Each stone is unique

The Belgian whetstone consists of 30 to 42% garnet crystals connected with mica The grenades give the chunks its exceptional sharpness properties. The geometric shape of the grenade is the dodecahedro. There are twelve surfaces with blunt angles. They have a size of 5 to 15 microns and penetrate 1 to 3 microns into the metal to be sharpened. This shape (blunt angles polish the metal), the large number of these grenades ensure that the blade is sharpened very quickly and extremely fine. In just a few minutes the blade is razor-sharp. The whetstone is often compared to a whetstone of 6000-8000 grit using the Japanese grit system. However, it must be taken into account that this is a natural product and therefore no stone is 100% identical to another. Advantage: A Belgian whetstone sharpens very fine and very quickly. No other whetstone has this combination.

The blade is sharpened and polished at the same time

The geometric shape of the grenade gives the whetstone another unique feature. The smooth shape of the grenade means they sharpen the metal without leaving tiny burrs. This results in a fine shine without scratching the blade, making the knife much easier to use.

Any type of steel becomes sharp

The hardness of the grenade ensures that they can sharpen any type of steel, including stainless steel (including 18/8 and 18/10), damascus steel and HSS high speed steel.

Why should the Belgian chunks be used for sharpening

  • Any type of steel can be sharpened
  • The blade is sharpened and polished at the same time, there are no scratches on the blade
  • Natural product from the Belgian Ardennes
  • Extra quality means the stone has no cracks, bumps or inclusions

Best sharpness

  • Extra chunks have excellent quality - no cracks, bumps or inclusions
  • Roughness 6000-8000
  • Always use enough water
  • Increase abrasiveness with rubbing stone
  • A whetstone for the entire sharpening process
  • Long service life
Fine tones and durability

For fine honing, the paste of water and abrasion is diluted in several steps with a small amount of water until finally there is only water on the surface. This method, combined with the versatility of the "Coticule" grinding surface, means that only one whetstone is needed for the entire sharpening process.

The Coticule is a non-porous stone and cannot clog.

Stone Life: The service life depends on use. The more intense the use, the faster the stone will be removed. Users report a service life of up to 20 years.

Water is always used when sharpening. All that is required is to wet the surface. No need to immerse the stone. During sharpening, grenades are released from the surface. The more grenade is released, the more abrasive the grinding compound.

Increased abrasion with a friction stone

A frequently used method to increase abrasion is a grinding stone (= approx. No.1) to make a "paste" with a high garnet content on the chunks surface. This is done by rubbing the surface of the grating stone over the surface of the chunk. It does not take long to form a milky white paste.

Sharpening process

Wet the surface of the stone with a little water. Always pull the blade or object to be sanded in one direction against the grinding surface for 1-2 minutes (the blade lift off from the chunk during the return movement), a kind of paste forms on the Belgian chunk, which additionally sharpens and polishes the blade. If the "paste" dries up, add some water to the stone again. Continue the grinding process until you reach the desired sharpness. Make sure you pull the blade at the right angle against the sanding surface of the Belgian chunk. Place a large sanding object preferably on a stable surface and pull the whetstone against the cutting surface.
