#JAWORSKYJ gradient filter 1.2 soft GND for 100 x 100 mm filter system

The #jaworskyj Graduated Filter provides harmonious exposure in a shot by compensating for differences in brightness.

For comparison: Conventional Soft GND (Graduated Neutral Density) Graduated Filters from most manufacturers have a strength of ND 0.9, which is equivalent to 8x darkening at the darkest part of the filter.

The #jaworskyj Soft GND Graduated Filter has a thickness of ND 1.2, which is equivalent to a 16x darkening at the darkest part of the filter. Thus, with the #jaworskyj 1.2 Soft GND gradient filter, you can darken the sky more and compensate for brightness differences better than with most ordinary soft GND gradient filters.

Explanation of soft GND gradient filter

Soft GND means that the transition from darkening to neutral is soft. This has the advantage that you do not perceive the darkening directly, because the transition from light to dark runs evenly soft. It also has the disadvantage that the darkest point (e.g. ND 0.9 - 8x or ND 1.2 - 16x) is located at the top of the filter. However, this part is hardly visible in the picture at the end. Often the brightest part is on the horizon because the sun goes up or down. So it may be that the filter is "too weak" in certain situations - even as 1.2 Soft GND.

The #jaworskyj 0.9 Hard GND gradient filter is very suitable for such scenarios. Here the transition from light to dark is not soft, but as the name suggests, hard. Thats why a #jaworskyj 0.9 Hard GND Graduated Filter may appear darker or just as dark as a #jaworskyj 1.2 Soft GND Graduated Filter, although it is actually "weaker".

The disadvantage of the Hard GND is that you have to work very precisely so that you do not get a visibly crooked darkening, on the other hand, the darkening can be very strong on mountains, trees or buildings on the horizon. In addition, you only have one level of darkening, namely 0.9.

With the Soft GND you can vary the thickness of the darkening by pushing the filter higher or lower until the maximum is reached.

Multi-coated optical glass reduces reflections

The #jaworskyj Graduated Filter is made from both sides cut and polished glass that stands for durability and highest optical quality. As a soft edge filter, it offers a soft gradient from dark to light or from grey to colourless. In thickness ND 1.2, it darkens the desired area by 4 stops.

All the advantages at a glance:

Soft edge filter with soft gradient, balances brightness differences in one shot (up to 4 apertures). Ideal for landscape photography. High-quality optical glass. Scratch-resistant nano multiple coating suppresses reflections and is water-repellent and colour cast-free. Easy to assemble with #JAWORSKYJ filter holder

For installation, screw the matching adapter ring onto the lens from the #jaworskyj 100 x 100 mm filter system and attach the filter holder to it. This means that the #jaworskyj gradient filter can be easily used with lenses from a focal length of approx. Insert 16 mm on a full-frame camera (APS-C from approx. 10 mm, filter suitable for Canon, Sony, Nikon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Pentax and many other cameras).

The #jaworskyj gradient filter, adapter rings and bracket are part of the #jaworskyj 100 x 100 mm filter system. The special advantage of the system lies in its universal use. A filter mount and matching adapter ring are enough to use the filter with multiple lenses. All parts are available both individually and in a set.

Please note: To attach the filter holder to your lens, you only need an adapter ring. This must match the filter thread of your lens (please note: diameter is not the focal length of the lens).
