A Potjie is cast iron pot with 3 legs originally placed on the embers of an open fireplace. Primarily it enjoys great popularity in South Africa, although it originally comes from the Netherlands. The pot is mobile and flexible. Our Potjie is made from particularly thick-walled material, which ensures that the heat is stored in the pot for a long time, allowing even cooking.
You can simply place the pot in the fire or hang it over a fire pit. Thanks to the raised lid edge, you can also place hot briquettes or glowing coals on the top, creating top heat.
In the robust cast iron pots you can make dishes such as stews, soups, stews and similar. You can also bake bread and cakes - the imagination knows no bounds. Our Potjie are already pre-seasoned and can be used immediately. However, we recommend burning the pot and lid again before first use (instructions included). Of course, our Potjie LFBG are certified - this means that you meet the strict requirements for food safety.

The Potjie is elaborately produced/poured by hand. Due to the manufacturing process in this special design, connection seams are present, which are largely removed by means of loops. Despite such great care, it is not always possible to make them "invisible". These visible traces do not affect the function and do not hinder cooking.

Cast iron products tend to build up quickly. All cast iron products from Georges are therefore pre-seasoned on delivery (patina layer to avoid rusting). If re-burning is required, proceed as follows:
Clean the product with hot, clear water - do not use fit, soap or other detergents. Detergents are fat-soluble, destroy the patina layer and penetrate the pores of the cast iron You would taste this during the next food preparation. Dry the product and then rub it with a vegetable fat (e.g. coconut fat) or a vegetable oil (e.g. sunflower oil). Then place the product for approx. 1 hour. At 200 °C upside down in the oven or in a hot kettle grill. Then rub any remaining grease with a kitchen towel. Do not store cast iron products in plastic bags - there is a risk of the fat becoming rancy.
In order to enjoy your cast iron product for a long time, we recommend that you repeat this process regularly - but at the latest if you find rusting.
