The 1.25 inch Moon & Skyglow is a multi-bandpass filter that allows a high light content in the visual spectrum through. The filter enhances contrast when observing brighter objects, including the moon and planets.
It also suppresses the glow of the sky by artificial light and the background lights reflected at moonrise. The filter slightly darkens the background of the night sky, making the fainter objects more clearly visible in contrast to the blackness of space.
The filter effectively filters selected wavelengths of low pressure sodium and other artificial sources typically used in street lighting. It improves the view of deep sky objects by increasing the contrast of these objects to the background sky. While nebula filters pass only a few selected wavelengths corresponding to different atomic lines, this filter allows a large portion of the continuous spectrum to pass through while blocking some selected lines of the more common artificial light. Significantly reduces glare without reducing important color and brightness variations.
