The difference between waterproof and water-repellent jackets
Buying a jacket can be confusing as different terms and reviews are used. Below is a simple guide to help you choose the perfect jacket: Water resistant: The fabric is treated with a coating that repels water. These jackets offer excellent value for money to keep you dry in light showers. Water resistant: The fabric has been treated with a DWR coating (permanently water-repellent impregnation). This allows moisture to bead and roll off the surface. Ideal for light rain or in short-term heavy rain. Waterproof: These fabrics can withstand heavier rainfall without moisture penetration. Usually a laboratory tested rating for the "hydrostatic head" is given which measures the degree of waterproofing.
