A grain tip (often also called centring tip or rolling grains) is one of the most important tools when working with a lathe. It is used as a fuse in the tailstock to work on long, thin and heavy workpieces safely and accurately. In contrast to solid grain tips, the tip rotates with the workpiece with the running grain tips, thus avoiding friction and higher speeds are possible.
The grain tip is double mounted and thus achieves a high concentricity of max. 0.015mm It can be used up to a speed of 2,800 rpm. The steel tip is hardened and ground, which increases the load capacity and life of this item. The tip angle of this grain tip is - as usual with grain tips - 60°.
