Miniature and instrument ball bearings can be divided into two basic types, deep groove and slope. The first (deep groove) can also be classified as "open", "shielded", or "sealed", depending on the presence and the type of seal or shielding. Deep groove ball bearings have two inherent advantages.
They can maintain a certain axial load in any direction as well as radial loads, and the two racetrack cross sections are simple circular arches that can be completed very accurately to have the bearings with low friction and very little noise or vibration. Purpose of lubrication:
The main purpose of lubrication is to reduce friction and wear within bearings, which can cause premature failure.
The effects of lubrication can be brief as explained:
(1) Reduction of friction and wear.
Direct metallic contact between the bearing rings, roller body and cage is prevented by a lubricating film.
(2) Extend fatigue life.
The rolling life of bearings depends strongly on the viscosity and the film thickness between the roller contact surfaces. A sufficient layer thickness extends the fatigue life while the film thickness shortened.
(3) dissipation of friction heat and cooling.
Circulation lubrication can be used to transfer friction heat or heat from outside the bearing.
(4) Other
Sufficient lubrication also helps foreign bodies penetrate bearings and protects against corrosion and rust.
