Description:
A rotary center is a tool that has been ground to a point to position a workpiece accurately on an axis. It has an enclosed angle of 60°. The main use of a centre is to ensure that concentric work is done. This allows the workpiece to be transferred between machining processes without loss of accuracy. One part can be turned in a lathe, sent for hardening and starting and then ground in a cylinder grinder between the centers. A center is also used to carry longer workpieces where the cutting forces would excessively distract the work, reducing the finish and accuracy of the workpiece.
Functions:
The conical part is made of T10 steel with a quenching hardness of 55 to 60 HRC, the main body part is made of 40Cr steel with a quenching hardness of 45 to 50 HRC.
