For most lenses, manufacturers offer a focusing mechanism that extends only a few millimeters, partly to keep costs low, partly to limit the lens to extensions for which the optics are optimized. To provide an additional extension, one or more extension tubes can be added between the camera and the lens to allow the lens to focus at tighter distances and therefore achieve higher magnification.

This macro extension tube set for your film digital SLR contains 3 extension tubes - 9 mm, 16 mm and 30 mm adapters. When you use this set, the optical quality of your lens is not affected. Sharpness and saturation can still be maintained. However, they are not coupled by the metre. They do not preserve the automatic membrane. It should be used with manual lenses with its own aperture wheel. There is no electronic connection between the body and the lens. Automatic lenses can only be used with the largest open aperture. If you use the extension ring with a DSLR/SLR, the camera should be put into M mode.
