83x Mega Optical Zoom with Zoom Functions

Close, Far, Fast, Slow - With the 83X Mega Optical Zoom, the Stag on photo subjects will be as versatile and comfortable as never before. The powerful lens inspires with a minimum focus distance of just 1 cm to explore the immediate environment. For everything that goes beyond it, it offers a focal length range of 24-2000 mm*. With the switchable 166x dynamic fine zoom, this can be extended to 4000 mm - and at much higher quality than it has been known from many digital zooms. The practical zoom back function makes recording even more comfortable: At the touch of a button, motifs that temporarily move from the image can be captured again at the next wide-angle zoom level. In addition, three zoom speeds can be selected using the side zoom switch, including the low-speed zoom that minimises flickering and makes soft exposure changes possible when filming.

Excellent image quality even in low light: The COOLPIX P950 uses a highly sensitive, rear-exposed 16-megapixel CMOS BSI sensor, which provides impressive contrast at dusk and night thanks to a maximum ISO 6400 sensitivity and effective noise reduction. The outstanding optical performance is achieved through an elaborate construction of 16 lenses in 12 groups, which allows for almost perfect correction of the colour defect (chromatic aberration) through the use of 5 ED glass lens elements as well as a special lens made from super ED glass. So that you can edit your recordings as desired, the COOLPIX P950 also stores all images in RAW format (NRW).

Detailed telephoto images from the hand – even in moments full of adrenaline: With the optical dual-detect image stabilizer (VR), the COOLPIX P950 has a highly effective system to reduce blurring. Horizontal and vertical movements of the camera are captured by an angle acceleration sensor and compensated with the motion vector information from the live image of the image sensor. The compensation is so effective that exposure times can be extended by 5.5 light levels. Even in low light you can sharper shots and you can take longer without flash. In active mode, the lens tolerates even stronger fluctuations, such as when shooting from the rear of a SUV, or from the deck of a boat.

4K-UHD video and time-lapse movie

For moments when a photo is not enough: By pressing the movie record button, the COOLPIX P950 starts the film recording in 4K UHD resolution (3840 × 2160, 30p/25p). By distributing the recording to multiple files, it allows a recording time of up to 29 minutes at 30p. To make the live picture accessible for other viewers, the camera can be connected to an external monitor via an HDMI interface. It also allows manual film settings for choice of exposure time, aperture and light sensitivity. The camera also allows you to automatically create time-lapse films (Time-lapse movie), for which a 10-second clip from a series of up to 30 interval shots is assembled - ideal for documenting magnificent sunsets or cloud hikes. Stereo sound recording supports you by connecting an external microphone - both via the accessory shoe and via Bluetooth.

Continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second

Get the most out of the right moment: The COOLPIX P950s fast contrast auto focus system allows continuous shooting of up to 7 frames per second, while the electronic aperture control ensures consistently high exposure precision. Thanks to the increased buffer memory, two consecutive image series are possible - perfect for capturing dynamic action in the wild, such as the jump of a salmon or the game of animal children. In birdwatching mode, there are three different size focus fields, of which the mode Spot-AF allows for pinpoint-accurate focusing of a subject detail, for example the eye of a small bird. The 6 rounded fins of the aperture ensure a pleasant bokeh and help to display motifs against a naturally soft background.

Unusual perspectives and perfect subject control when taking photos and films: Whether its a frog perspective, overhead shot, or selfie - from any angle the extremely flexible tilting and rotating TFT LCD monitor allows safe image control. 921,000 pixels and a large screen diagonal of 8.1 cm (3.2 inches) ensure a brilliant, high-contrast and high-resolution image. Thanks to the clear colour technology and anti-reflective coating, you can also enjoy a clear view of your motifs from side viewing angles and in bright ambient light. Depending on your needs, you can adjust the brightness and colour tones via five levels. As soon as your eye approaches the OLED electronic viewfinder, the camera will automatically switch to it. It offers a 99% image coverage when recording (100% in playback) and provides your motifs ultra-high resolution with 2.36 megapixels and approx. 0.68x magnification - thanks to dioptre correction also adapted to individual eyesight.

Exposure control (P/S/A/M) and recording modes

Individual image design with a simple twist: The practical function selector allows easy handling of the exposure control via the modes programme automatic (P), aperture automatic (S), aperture priority (A) and manual exposure control (M). Even in low light and at night, the camera opens up attractive options for image design, such as in the time and bulb modes, where fascinating long exposures of the starry sky or night landscape are possible. In creative mode, it has 20 colour and light moods for pre-selection with which you can give your shots a personal aesthetic. For example, up to three shots can be "stacked on top of each other" for a multiple exposure. The function dial also provides access to 19 built-in scene modes, such as fireworks, night skies or star tracks, and allows direct control of modes for bird and moon observation.

SnapBridge connectivity for sharing recordings

The COOLPIX P950 is compatible with SnapBridge - an app that connects the camera to your smart device. Once you have installed SnapBridge* on your smart device, Bluetooth allows a permanent connection and automatic image transfer to the smart device, either immediately after recording or later. For each image, the camera receives information from the smart device to the location, date and time of recording. Thanks to SnapBridge, you can also use your smart device as a remote control, for example by pointing the camera to a subject and checking the live image on the smart device, pressing the zoom and pressing the shutter. In addition, you can choose from the smart device from movies for transfer, view all photos stored in the camera (even when the camera is switched off) and automatically upload and secure this thanks to Wi-Fi support to Nikon IMAGE SPACE.
