Description

Since the BMW 315 and the famous BMW 328, two-seat roadsters have been style-defining the image of the Munich car manufacturers. After the war, the BMW 507, built only 254 times, successfully continued this tradition. However, it should take until the IAA 1987 until BMW presented a legitimate successor in the form of the BMW Z1. Designed as both an image and technology carrier, the Z1 was designed by later Porsche design chief Harm Lagaay and had a 2.5 litre 6-cylinder in-line engine. Its engine mounted behind the front axle helped the Z1 achieve outstanding road holding and allowed it extreme cornering speeds. A variety of other technological treats such as its fully galvanised chassis, its thermoplastic body panels and last but not least its retractable doors made the Z1 a special car from the start. The Z1 was built entirely by hand and manufactured in exactly 8000 copies between 1989 and 1991. Please note: Not suitable for children under 14 years.
