What you need to know about the cable cross-sectional area and how it can be measured: The cross section of a cable describes an area and therefore the specification is indicated in square millimetres (mm²) and not the diameter of the cable. The cross-sectional surface cannot be measured with a calliper, but is made from the following formula: (Diameter of the individual strands)²*(number of strands)/4*3.14 is the surface of the cable and therefore also the designation square millimetres.
