●KORG volca drum - The volca drum digital percussion synthie is the perfect instrument for all technic-enthusiastic musicians as well as fans of modern beats and sounds. The 6-piece DSP engine provides expressive sounds. You can design them freely thanks to the wide range of controls and functions. For a creative sound design - even in live operation - you can use a Waveguide resonator with which you can add different resonances to the sound, e.g. the sound of a drum. With the 16 buttons of the step sequencer, you can easily create patterns. With Active Step, skip or set the steps to get extraordinary rhythms. All in all, the little synth is peppered with inspirational features. So if you want to make DJs, music enthusiasts and tinkerers a special friend, the volca drum is guaranteed to be the right choice.
●Quality – convincing sounds, an intuitive user interface and the all-round carefree package are three of the main features to which the high quality of the KORG volca drum can be attributed. Under the hood of the compact synthesizer are striking, modern sounds and numerous functions. All sounds are based on analogue modeling and oscillator waveforms such as sine, sawtooth and noise. By modifying these waveforms in different ways, many realistic and unconventional percussion sounds can be created. The almost endless possibilities of this compact synth reflect the ambition of KORG to produce durable instruments.
●Your advantages – with the KORG volca drum you get a percussion synth that offers strong sounds and versatile variations that you can design yourself. Use your drum and percussion creations to create music for movies and videos, and modulate perfect beats for songs. Thanks to its compact size, battery operation and headphone input, you can play the drum synthesizer anywhere: in the home, on the stage, in the studio, on the park bench or wherever you want. The jack inputs and outputs allow you to connect the synth with other KORG instruments and become much more creative.

KORG, volca drum, SynthKORG, volca drum, Synth

The drum synth that changes the sound world. Volca drum expands the Volca product line with a unique drum synth.

Whether its analogue, PCM or FM, the Volca series inspires with magnificent sounds in uncomplicated instruments. The series is complemented by a new rhythm machine with completely different sound characters: The volca drum digital percussion synthesizer.

A simple trigger waveform is enriched by a wave folder and overdrive for a variety of overtones and distortion, and then brought to life with a waveguide resonator effect. The 6-piece DSP Synth engine has been designed completely different from conventional drum machines and produces a wide range of basic sounds, which can also be played with the volca typical sequencer.

Thanks to its distinctive sounds, the Drum Synth refreshes all rhythms and changes production in a revolutionary way.

Versatile sound variations

Digital percussion synth with 6 part x 2 layer structure

In the term "digital", one usually thinks of bass drums, snare drums, cymbals or other sounds, based on PCM samples. The volca drum produces its drum sounds through DSP-based analogue modelling and oscillator waveforms such as sine, saw tooth and noise. By modifying these waveforms in different ways, you can create many realistic and exciting unconventional percussion sounds that are not limited to drums.

Each of the 6 parts has 2 layers and is subject to no rules or restrictions. All parts have the same specification and can be used freely for bass drum, cymbals etc. These 6 parts can be assigned to any new sounds without having to consider the conventions of a drum set. A kit consists of these 6 assigned parts as well as the effect settings of the Waveguide Resonator and can be secured in one of the 16 internal memory spaces (from the factory 10 kits are pre-programmed).

Newly developed DSP engine with distinctive sounds

Each part consists of two layers. For each layer, you can choose one of 5 waveform types such as sine, saw tooth and HPF noise as well as 3-pin modulator and amp-EC types, which are optimised for drum sounds. The layer parameters are either individually or simultaneously editable, with two layers, you can also create the same sound and thus thicken heavily.

The generated trigger wave shape can be further adjusted by making them rougher by bit reduction, adding complex overtones by varying the wave folder depth or by overdrive regulating the distortion percentage. This creates a new, distinctive sound with a sound engine, whose structure is very different from a typical drum machine.

Once the sound is set, you can finely adjust the balance of the parts by modifying the timing of the steps, the Panning, the gain before mixing and the effect sends.

Waveguide Resonator for Dense Resonance

The waveguide resonator of the effect section is based on physical modelling and adds to the sound vibrating frequencies. There are two waveguide types to choose from: "Tube" leads to the resonance of a cylindrical object, such as a drum or long tube, while "Strings" generates the metallic resonance of a string. With the three controls in the middle of the control panel, DECAY (attenuation), BODY (sound properties) and TUNE (pitch) can be controlled. At lower TUNE levels a type of delay is created. You can use these controls not only in sound design, but also in live performance.

Advanced volca sequencer.

16-step sequencer with comprehensive parameter automation

The 16-step sequencer is ideal for improvising. With the 16 buttons, each corresponding to one of the 16 steps, you can easily create patterns. In addition to step recording, real-time recordings are also supported, in which a pattern in a playback loop is gradually built. With the pattern chain function, you can even play several sequence patterns one by one and connect a maximum of 16 sequences to pattern with 256 steps.

If you dont just want to play drum pattern, you can record and reproduce your control actions during real-time recording with the motion sequence function during playback. 69 different parameters can be saved in total. This is not only useful in creating patterns, but can also add much more original live performance. Up to 16 sequence programs (16-step sequence batteries, stored motion sequences, kit number) can be stored internally.

Active step for skipping and replacing steps.

With the active step function, steps can be skipped during sequence playback. This allows you to create short loop effects, irregular rhythms or even polyrhythms by using different settings per piece. The step jump function jumps to the step of the button that you press during sequence playback. By using these real-time editing features, you can create dynamic performances inspired by the moment.

Slice function for creating drum rolls

The step slide function produces variable drum rolls. With a rotary control you can change the number of slices and insert a sophisticated drum roll as a climax of songs or performance in the middle or at the end of a pattern.

Accent function with 16 levels

Accents can be used to emphasise certain beats of a step not only on and off, but also in 16 gradations to work out grooves and rhythmic nuances.

Practical choke function for grouping parts

The choke function sets priorities for similar parts of a drum machine when they are played at the same time. For example, if the choke function is activated in the open and closed HiHat, only the hi-hat part with the lowest number will sound at all times.

Two Randomize functions to inspire

With the two Randomize functions, you can randomly change the sound (layer) of a selected individual part or vary steps, slices, accents and active step settings of a selected individual part. This allows you to build surprising changes and developments in sounds and patterns during performance.

New design with special LCD

The aluminium control panel has been etched and radiates high value with engraved text and fine lines. A special LCD is also one of the innovations of the volca series. The bright display is very easy to read and represents complex settings graphically, which allows you to immediately understand the relationships and learn to operate the volca drum in an instant.

Synchronised performance with other volcas, electribes and DAWs

Using the sync socket for connecting Korg Groove Machines you can connect the volca drum to other devices in the volca series, an electribe or a SQ-1 and synchronise the playback via sequencer. Using the standard MIDI-IN socket, the volca drum can even be used as a sound module for a DAW.

Flexible and ready to play anywhere

With its integrated speaker, the compact, handy, battery-operated volca drum is easy to transport and can be played anywhere.
