Nearly 100 years ago, Shozaburo Shimano, a knife smith from Japanese Sakai, in which Shimano Iron Works developed a freewheel hub, whose quality and performance confronted all the technical challenges of the time, and thus significantly shaped the development of the bike. The beginning of a company history that remains deeply rooted with your beginnings in the Japanese industrial metropolis, but never lost sight of the future.

Gear systems, brakes, e-bike drives, pedals, shoes, clothing - numerous of these milestones opened up improved cycling possibilities for years. And thats anything but coincidence – the knowledge accumulated over decades as well as the ability to implement current trends into thoughtful and groundbreaking technologies early.
