The Cokin Creative Filter System was developed in 1978 by renowned French fashion and landscape photographer Jean Coquin and remains an integral part of the international photography community. The system is mainly based on square or rectangular Dropin filters that slide into a filter holder. The holder is mounted on lenses via a simple adapter ring of the appropriate size. Most Cokin filters are made from very high quality European made optical resin known as C39. Jean Coquin chose this resin for its optical clarity and stability. It is lightweight and unbreakable, has an extremely high optical transmittance and is perfect for tinting. It is the perfect base for the production of photographic filters and exceeds that of mineral glass in its precision.
