B-17F Memphis Belle

Description:

The Boeing B-17 was founded in the 2nd World War synonymous with the heavily armed strategic bombers, although with 12 677 machines it was still not the most built machine of this kind. She received her name Flying Fortress from an American journalist after the first flight and he remained it. The Boeing B-17F was the first Flying Fortress to be mass produced. The most famous machine in this range was the B-17F-10-BO manufactured at Boeing which was delivered on 15th July 1942 and served at the 324th Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group in Bassingbourn, England. From her crew she received the name Memphis Belle, after the girlfriend of pilot Lt. Robert K. Morgan Her celebrity resulted from the fact that she officially survived 25 missions as the first bomber of the US Army Air Force in Europe and became the star of a Hollywood Propaganda film. After this use, the Memphis Belle was ordered with its crew in the USA. Later, it was bought by the city of Memphis and placed under the open sky as a memorial. In 2004, the B-17F was subjected to a complete restoration, today the Memphis Belle is accessible to the public again.
