In 1963, a leather craftsman named Sante Mazzarolo brought out a future icon. Based in the small northern Italian town of Asolo and with the perennial alpine star flower as a namesake, Mr. Mazzarolo began producing the first products that were nicknamed Alpinestars. At that time, a new sport called motocross established itself and became increasingly popular throughout Europe. Sante was very aware of sports and recognized the opportunity to use his talent and technical acumen to design a new kind of footwear that meets the protective needs and demands of this beautiful but brutal form of sportiness. The revolutionary boot that Mr. Mazzarolo produced became an archetype for motocross protection.
