PCA82C250 is the interface between CAN protocol controller and physical bus. This device provides differential transmission capability for the bus and differential reception capability for the CAN controller.
Like PCA82C250, TJA1050 complies with ISO 11898 standard. Therefore, it can work with other transceiver products that comply with ISO 11898 standard. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the main design goal of TJA1050. Its radiation ratio in the key AM band PA82C250 is lower than 20 dB.
In addition to EMC, other important feature of TJA1050: when it is not powered on, the bus exhibits passive characteristics. This makes TJA1050 a more optimised transceiver for clamp-15 nodes that lose power after ignition. The node (clamp-30) that is continuously powered on requires a dedicated low-power mode to keep the power consumption of the entire system as low as possible.
Since the pins of TJA1050 and PCA82C250 are compatible with each other, TJA1050 can be used directly in existing applications without the need to modify the PCB.
