Almost 100 years ago, Shozaburo Shimano, a knife smith from the Japanese Sakai, developed a freewheel hub in the Shimano Iron Works whose quality and performance resisted all the technical challenges of the time, and thus significantly shaped the development of the bike. The beginning of a company story that is still deeply rooted with your beginnings in the Japanese industrial metropolis but never lost sight of the future. Shift systems, brakes, e-bike drives, pedals, shoes, clothing - numerous of these milestones opened up improved cycling possibilities for years. And thats anything but coincidence - the knowledge accumulated over decades as well as the ability to implement current trends early into thoughtful and groundbreaking technologies.
