Description

Product Description

In 1934, the Henschel Flugzeug-Werke AG was commissioned to develop a light ground combat aircraft as part of a construction competition of the Army Weapons Office. The robust Henschel Hs 123 double-decker emerged as the winner from the competition. Series production began in 1936, until production expired in mid-1937, around 250 Hs 123 were built. Thanks to the 880 hp star motor of the Bavarian engine plants, the Hs 123 reached a top speed of 340 km/h. The first operational deployment of the biplane occurred during the Spanish Civil War in the squadrons of the Legion Condor. In the course of the Second World War, however, the rapid technological development in military aviation degraded the Hs 123 to secondary roles despite their proven reliability. On the eastern front, for example, the light earth combat aircraft was mainly used in night ground attacks.
