The clicker is a wind indicator on a sailing boat. It indicates the direction of the apparent wind. The name is already used for the 19th century and probably originated from the sailor language. It originally only refers to the pennants, flags or (club) stands attached to the mast tip (the mast top), which "clicked" the direction of the onboard wind, so clearly made sailors and recreational sailors.
