Softshell technology

Softshell describes functional textiles with two to three laminated membrane layers for optimum durability, insulation of the inner lining and air circulation.

Optimum air circulation thanks to the processing of breathable fabrics (3000 g/m²/24 h). Water-repellent (hydrostatic head 8,000 mm). Durable softshell material with fleece interior

Hydrostatic head

The so-called Hydrostatic head is considered a measure for determining the tightness for products marked as waterproof such as jackets, ski clothing, tents and other outdoor equipment. In this measuring procedure, the outside of the test material is exposed to water and it is measured after which the membrane becomes permeable to water. The pressure that is present at the time of water permeability is then indicated in millimetres of hydrostatic head. In this context, 1500 mm is the value from which textiles are generally considered waterproof in Germany.

Breathable and permeable to water vapour

The special feature of functional clothing is due to the fact that the sweat produced during physical activity can circulate away from the skin as quickly as possible by exhalation. In this special context, the water vapour permeability of the material is numbered in grams per square metre in 24 hours (g/m2/24h). The higher this count, the more permeable the material is.
