Description

Abrasives, also known as abrasives or abrasives, include those hard material grains that are used to achieve material removal. There is a distinction between natural grain materials (flint, quartz, corundum, emery, garnet, natural diamond) and synthetic grain materials (corundum, silicon carbides, chrome oxides, cubic boron nitride, diamonds).

corundum
Corundum is the most commonly used abrasive. Its important properties, hardness and toughness depend on its purity, which is already recognizable by the colour. While hardness, and thus brittleness increase with the degree of purity, the toughness increases due to the addition of metal oxides as well as the cooling rate in the production of the abrasive.

Normal corundum is brown and has over 94% Al2O3. Its application area is mainly unalloyed and low-alloy steels as well as cast steel and grey cast iron. As well as wood, plasterboard and plastics. Its toughness also allows high contact forces on the workpiece.
