The down layer of wool, which is soft and next to the skin, each feather is brushed out and then made into yarn for weaving. It is soft like the tall goats that give us cashmere and keep you very warm. Yaks live at an amazing 13,000 to 5 m above sea level. The yak wool is anti-allergic. There is no lanolin in the fiber, so it is easy to clean and hypoallergenic. If you are allergic to sheeps wool, you can wear or cover yourself with a yak scarf or throw. It is naturally also antibacterial, so unlike synthetic garments, it stays odor free for many days at once. Unlike sheeps wool, the scales, the yak fibers are in a wavy mosaic pattern, resulting in a very smooth fiber that does not itch.
