Liquid thermometer made according to the idea of Galileo Galilei (1564-1642).
Galileo discovered that liquids change their density depending on the temperature.
The weight difference of the 5 glass balls is measured (to one hundredth of a gram) exactly so that the lowest of the above floating balls always displays the current temperature in the range of 18 °C to 26 °C.

How it works:
If the temperature rises, the density of the liquid in the thermometer is reduced. The comparatively heavier balls lose buoyancy and sink. When the room temperature decreases on the other side, the lighter balls gain buoyancy and gradually rise.
