*Between two parallel metal busbars there is a uniform core strip made of PTC material. When the two busbars at the end of the cable are connected to a power source, current flows sideways from one busbar to another through the layer of PTC material.
*The PTC layer is a resistance heating element that is constantly connected in parallel between busbars to convert electrical energy into thermal energy. The resistance of the core band increases with the temperature and reaches about 50-60 degrees. The resistance is so high that the current flow almost comes to a halt. When the upper limit is reached, the temperature of the core band does not increase, but automatically increases within a limited range.
